A CDV of a finely whiskered Victorian gentleman. He's got a fine set of mutton chops and beard. The studio named on the back of the CDV is "Borgardus, Photographer, 363 Broadway, corner Franklin St. N. Y.". The photographer Abraham Borgardus who is well known for his work including working with P. T. Barnum to expose a fraudulent spirit photographer. Circa 1870.
Carte de Vistes were all the rage in the 1860s - a small photo portrait that could be shared with family and friends, and collected into the first photo albums. By the early 1870s the Cabinet Card began to replace the CDV, but they didn't fully disappear for a couple more decades. Antique photograph from the Civil War Era.
