A small shallow bowl with two upturned handles, or handled oblong serving plate - hand painted Nippon with landscape and lake scene which is accented with gold gilt paint - Morimura Bros.
The gold that accents the landscape painting is bright and fresh. This really quite a lovely design and unusual as the colors and tones are blue, yellow, charcoal, and gold.
It is marked on the bottom with the laurel leaf and M for Morimura Bros (old Noritake), and marked hand painted Nippon - making it pre-1921.
The Morimura Brothers started as a trading company out of New York and Japan. They sold Japanese antique and imports to America. By 1899 a third of their business was ceramics, and all the potteries were consolidated in the area of Nagoya, Japan. In 1904 the two brothers established a factory of their own in Noritake, just outside of Nagoya.
CONDITION: Good condition with no chips, or cracks, but the gold trim is quite worn on the handles and rim.
SIZE: It is 8 1/4 inches long.
