Very attractive piece of Royal Commemorative history - an ashtray by Crown Devon commemorating the Coronation of King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mum and mother of Queen Elizabeth II). The coronation took place on May 12, 1937 - and George VI succeeded his brother Edward VIII who abdicated to marry Wallace Simpson, American Divorcee. The ashtray is cream colored with gold trim, hand painted red and blue accents, and a relief of the King and Queen as a young royal couple in the center.
Crown Devon is a renowned English pottery that operated in Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire from the 1870s through to the 1980s. The back of the ashtray is marked with their logo, and 'made in England'.
CONDITION: Very good. No cracks, nicks, or chips - though the glaze is crazed.
SIZE: Just over 4 1/2 inches wide.
