This small Victorian mourning brooch is unmarked, and was obviously created for the less affluent. I can only guess at the materials, but I would guess it is a French Jet (black glass) on a metal pin back, and the cameo is probably vulcanite or gutta percha and I believe it is molded rather than carved, and then mounted on the black French jet. This is a fun, inexpensive example of Victorian mourning jewelry - a trend started by Queen Victoria when she went into mourning for Prince Albert.
This is an opportunity to be able to own a lovely piece of Victorian mourning jewelry at an affordable price.
CONDITION: Good but the c clasp is a bit bent and would need some adjustment in order to wear the piece. Also some black paint is missing from the metal pin back.
SIZE: It is 1 1/4 inch wide.
