The attractive cover of this Motion Picture Magazine from Januaruy 1950 features sultry Ava Gardner. The cover also promises us that we will read the real reason Lana Turner returned to Hollywood. Inside there is an article about Montgomery Clift's lurid love life (all untrue as it turns out), and a very nice spread on acting powerhouse Spencer Tracy.
Motion Picture Magazine was the first movie fan magazine, and it ran from 1911 to 1977. It's original title was The Motion Picture Story Magazine, and renamed to Motion Picture Magazine in 1914. It started off with fiction, etc, but the name change signaled its shift iin focus to celebrities.
Sadly many of these classic movie magazines were mutilated for their covers and movie ads. This Golden Age magazine is intact.
CONDITION: Very good to near excellent for these magazines. Some light wear on the spine, and a little discoloration on the cover on Ava's forehead.
SIZE: It is a 8.5 inch by 11 inch format
NOTE: I price my vintage movie magazines based on age, condition, and how good the content is. I have no idea of their relative rarity, but I do know that many of these old magazines were cut up for clippings, or their covers removed for framing, so any intact movie magazine is a good find!
