The Detroit Publishing Co. was founded in the late 1890s by a Detroit publisher and a photographer. The company obtained exclusive rights to the Photochrom process for the American market. This process allowed black and white photos to be converted to color, long before color photography would have been economically feasible for the publishing of prints and postcards. This is an early postcard with an undivided back.
