One pair of exquisite candlestick holders from Paden City Glass in their winged Art Deco Maya Pattern. It is gold trimmed with an unknown etch in gold. I have looked for the name of the etch everywhere, but the only place I found it listed had it unknown as well. It has been found on other glass company's products. It is a beautiful etch with flowers, scrolls, and a basket of flowers in the center.
Paden City Glass made hand made glass from 1916 to 1951. While they were highly successful and made many beautiful designs, they could not survive the switch to automation in 1949. Paden City Glass is true 'elegant glass', not depression glass. It was hand made by glass artisans and would have been expensive in the day. Paden City Glass was started with the molds of Higbee Glass Company and managed to swipe a mold maker from New Martinsville Glass. I can definitely see the relationship to New Martinsville in this particular design.
CONDITION: Excellent with no chips, cracks, nicks, or scratches. There is wear on the gold trim.
SIZE: Approximately 6 1/2 inches tall. Base is 4 3/4 inches across.
