The Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene is the 2nd in the original Nancy Drew series, originated by Edward Stratemeyer as a female counterpart to his Hardy Boy series. Like all Stratemeyer projects they were ghost written under the pen name "Carolyn Keene". At this time the ghost writer was Mildred Wirt Benson, who wrote 28 of the early books, and thus was responsible for creating Nancy's iconic personality. Later editions were rewritten by other writers. This is illustrated by Russell H. Tandy, and has glossy illustrations inside.
This copy has its original dust jacket in very good condition! There are ads for the the books that were published from 1930-1932, with the last book, The Sigh of the Twisted Candles, published in 1933, so I estimate this is an early 1933 printing of the book. It does not contain an adventure number. It has four glossy illustrations which also dates the book before 1938. There is a bookplate inside cover.
Please examine photos, as I'm no Nancy Drew expert.
CONDITION: Excellent, fine! This copy has a good condition dust jacket, tight binding, and no discoloration. Very unusual to find such a beautiful copy in this state.
SIZE: 5 inches by 7 1/2 inches.
