The title page of this book reads : Swanee Ribber and a Biographical Sketch of Stephen Collins Foster. It was published by The Stephen Foster Memorial Association, Inc. White Springs, Florida. The author is Fletcher Hodges, Jr. Copyright 1958. The first part of the book is biography, and the second part is the lyrics of "Swanee River" illustrated with beautiful plates from the time period the song was composed.
Stephen Foster is considered the Father of American music, and in his brief career (he died young) he wrote songs such as "Oh, Susannah", "Camptown Races", "My Old Kentucky Home" etc. His music still survives today. This slim book contains a brief biography, a hand written letter about Foster, as the book was a gift and included the letter and inscription.
Swanee River or "The Old Folks at Home" is the State song of Florida.
