Antique Northwood Glass ruffled bowl in their Grape and Cable Pattern with nutmeg staining. Northwood Custard Glass decorative bowl that glows green under black light because it is also a form of uranium glass.
H. Northwood Co. operated from 1901 to 1925 - this piece is marked with the underlined N in a circle, indicating a period between 1905 and 1915. The popular pressed glass Grape and Cable pattern was introduced in 1908. Northwood was the first company to produce custard glass in the United States - custard glass is the color of egg custard, and contains a tiny amount of Uranium (considered quite safe) so that it glows green under a black or ultra-violet light.
CONDITION: Excellent. There is a tiny black spot. It is an imperfection in the glass, not damage.
SIZE: Measures about 7 1/4 inches across.
