A pair of antique stereoviews (I presume from around 1860 or so) showing the White House in Washington, D. C. from two different angles. Dating it that early is also made possible by the inclusion of a statue of Thomas Jefferson by sculpture Pierre-Jean David d’Angers on the White House lawn. This stature was removed from that location around 1873. One angle is unusual as it is the side of the White House or "President's Mansion". Photos by William Moody Chase or W. M. Chase.
Stereoviews were once produced in large quantities, a form of 3D entertainment and a way for people to see exotic or interesting locales far from home using a stereoscopic viewer - like the stereoscope. They are two nearly identical views photographed from a single stereoscope camera with two lens.
